Ruturaj Gaikwad has been in and out of the Indian national team for the past few years since making his international debut in the T20 format in 2021.
Despite his consistent performances in domestic cricket across all formats and in the Indian Premier League, where he leads a franchise like the Chennai Super Kings, Gaikwad has failed to cement his place in the national side.

As per legendary Indian spinner and former CSK star R Ashwin, Gaikwad should be included in the Indian team, at least in the T20I format, as he believes that his ex-captain in CSK is a complete cricketer and can fit into any role in the team, despite primarily being a top-order batter.
Gaikwad recently made it to the India A squad that will face South Africa A for an ODI series this month as he has been named as the vice-captain of the side, a deputy to Tilak Varma.
It will provide the 28-year-old a perfect platform to impress the selectors and the team management to get back into the main national side.

Ashwin hopes that Ruturaj Gaikwad makes a comeback to the India T20I side
Speaking on his YouTube channel, the veteran spinner said: "We do not need to talk about Ruturaj Gaikwad's class. He's got all the shots in the book. The only thing is there is no information as to why he is not in the scene after his last T20I series.
"When he played the last T20I, the coach was different, the captain was different. The issue is if there is no communication with such players, they will largely be left in the dark. I really hope he is being communicated to. He is batting brilliantly in the red-ball format as well. I hope they consider him for a middle-order role."
