When you talk about the best finishers or chasers in modern cricket, most people instantly think of Indian legends like MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, or Virat Kohli.

But wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma had a completely different take when asked to pick one name who could chase down a big target. His answer was AB de Villiers.

In a candid conversation with Sports Yaari, Jitesh shared why, for him, the South African genius tops the list when it comes to handling pressure and finding ways to win games from tough situations.

Why did Jitesh Sharma choose AB de Villiers over Dhoni, Kohli, and Rohit?

Jitesh was asked a tricky question that “Who would you trust to chase 24 runs off the last over: Dhoni, Kohli, Rohit, or AB de Villiers?”

His reply came without a second thought. “AB de Villiers,” he said. Explaining his choice, Jitesh said that in such extreme situations, you need someone who can hit the ball to any part of the ground.

“If you need 24 off 6 balls, you need a 360-degree player. AB can hit you anywhere- over covers, behind square, straight down the ground and he has got every shot in the book,” Jitesh explained.

When he was asked whether his answer would remain the same if Jasprit Bumrah was bowling the final over, Jitesh laughed and replied, “Still AB!. No offence to the other three - they're legends - but AB is someone who creates doubt in a bowler's mind. You never know where he's going to hit you next."

Even though Jitesh’s technical reasoning pointed towards AB de Villiers, he admitted that emotionally, his heart still beats for the Indian stars.

“If you ask me emotionally, I’d probably say Dhoni or Rohit Sharma,” he confessed. “But technically, AB is the right choice. He’s an all-format player, one of a kind.”
