Football is a team sport, but the pursuit of individual accolades always attracts attention from fans.
While Player of the Season honours invite debate, one individual award that leaves no room for subjectivity is the Golden Boot.
Whether it is at a major international tournament or in major European club competitions, the race for the Golden Boot is always closely followed, especially in the Premier League.
The Premier League has seen a lot of money spent already this summer, with Arsenal signing Viktor Gyokeres and Chelsea bringing in both Joao Pedro and Liam Delap to compete at the top end of the pitch, with the ever-reliable likes of Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah still gunning for the award.
The Sporting News takes you through the odds and a look at some of the early candidates for the 2025/26 Golden Boot award in the Premier League.

Premier League Golden Boot 2025/26 favourites and leading contenders
As mentioned, there has been an incredible amount of money spent in England’s top-flight, and a lot of it has been devoted to the top end of the pitch as teams begin the 38-game wrestle for glory this season.
This is a look at some of the early leading contenders to be the top scorer in the Premier League in 2025/26.
Erling Haaland
Erling Haaland remains the bookies' favourite to clinch the award this season, even if his Manchester City side are perhaps embarking upon a potentially disruptive transitional period with a lot of changes in the City squad.
City still finished third last season despite falling well below their usual high standards, with Haaland netting 22 goals in a season that saw him miss seven league games through injury.
He will go some to replicate his first season at the Etihad Stadium, in which he scored 36 goals in 35 league games, but Haaland remains a force of nature and, at 25, may well be warming up for a FIFA World Cup appearance with Norway this season. If he remains fit, Haaland threatening the top of the goalscoring charts is an inevitability.
Mohamed Salah
After a long drawn out process, Mohamed Salah finally signed a new contract at Anfield towards the end of last season and the Egyptian will be keen to add to the 245 goals that he has already scored for the Reds.
The 33-year-old forward enjoyed perhaps his best ever campaign for Liverpool last year as he took home the Golden Boot award with 29 of his 34 goals in 2024/25 coming in the Premier League.
Arne Slot and Liverpool have already spent heavily this summer and there is even a change of shape perhaps in the offing for the defending champions, but Salah will remain the centrepiece to their attack.
Alexander Isak
The first of two Swedes among the leading contenders for the boot is Alexander Isak, who has withdrawn from Newcastle United’s pre-season tour to Asia to force through a move away, with Liverpool his most likely destination.
Isak, who came through at AIK before moves to Borussia Dortmund and Real Sociedad, has been simply phenomenal for the Magpies, backing up a 21-goal season in the 2023/24 league campaign by scoring 23 goals in 34 Premier League appearances last year.
His ability to trouble the likes of his potential future teammate Salah and Haaland will depend on just how quick his future can be sorted out, with the season fast approaching and Isak lacking pre-season game time.
Viktor Gyokeres
Viktor Gyokeres is the big-money striker signing of the summer in the Premier League, having arrived at Arsenal from Portuguese champions Sporting Lisbon for a fee believed to be in the region of £54.8 million.
The Sweden international, formerly of Brighton and Hove Albion and Coventry City, enjoyed a remarkable time of it in Lisbon as he hit 97 goals in 102 appearances across all competitions for Sporting.
The 27-year-old arrives in London a matured player with an incredible record that has even been shown in the UEFA Champions League, and it will be a widely held belief that he could be the missing piece to finally push Mikel Arteta’s Gunners over the line to reclaim the Premier League title for the first time in over 20 years.
