The first two months of the women’s college basketball season delivered big-time matchups and early statement wins. Elite teams didn’t shy away from tough schedules, and fans were rewarded with high-level basketball before conference play fully kicked in.

Now, January raises the stakes.

With league play taking over, conference races in the SEC, Big Ten, and ACC will start to separate real contenders from the rest. Rivalries return, title hopes are tested, and every win matters more. These are the games that could shape the rest of the season.

USC vs. UCLA (Jan. 3)
Anytime these two meet, it matters. Playing at Pauley Pavilion gives UCLA an edge, especially with USC still finding consistency on offense. This game is also a major stage for USC freshman Jazzy Davidson, who continues to do everything for the Trojans.

Texas at LSU (Jan. 11)
This matchup could decide who controls the SEC. LSU brings one of the most explosive offenses in the country, while Texas counters with one of the toughest defenses. Something has to give, and the result will send a message across the league.

Louisville at Notre Dame (Jan. 15)
With traditional ACC favorites struggling early, this game may decide who really runs the conference. Both teams are balanced, disciplined, and built for March. Don’t be surprised if this feels like a championship preview.

Texas at South Carolina (Jan. 15)
If Texas beats LSU and then wins in Columbia, the SEC race could tilt heavily in their favor. This rematch carries extra weight after Texas edged South Carolina earlier in the season on a last-second shot.

Notre Dame at UConn (Jan. 19)
This is one of the biggest nonconference games left on the schedule. Notre Dame has had UConn’s number recently, but this Huskies team looks different. If UConn wins, an undefeated regular season stays in play.

Iowa State at Texas Tech (Jan. 28)
Texas Tech has shocked the Big 12 so far, but Iowa State and scoring star Audi Crooks present their biggest challenge yet. This game will show whether the Lady Raiders are a great story, or a real contender.

January doesn’t just bring more games. It brings clarity. By the end of the month, the national title picture will look much sharper.
