WNBA Draft 2023: Meet Maddy Siegrist, Villanova's record-breaking scoring machine image

Maddy Siegrist is one of the most prolific scorers in recent NCAA history, surpassing icons like Iowa's Caitlin Clark.

She had over 1,080 points in her senior season alone and is the current Villanova record holder on both the men's and women's sides with a career total of 2,896 points. She beat out the last record holder, Shelly Pennefather, by a whopping 487 points.

Now, with her name in the hat for the 2023 WNBA Draft, she has the ability to bring her fiery offensive talents to the big leagues. ESPN is projecting her as the No. 3 overall pick to the Dallas Wings based on speculation of nerves that, if they wait, she'll be snatched by another franchise from under their nose.

The Sporting News took a look into her four-year career at Villanova and exactly just how much net she managed to hit.

Who is Maddy Siegrist?

During the 2022-23 season with Villanova, Siegrist led all-players in points scored, with an average of 29.2 per game. In the postseason, she only played in three tournament games, as the Wildcats were booted in the Sweet 16 by Miami (FL), and still, she managed to bring home 97 total points.

That's as many as Iowa's Monika Czinano, who literally went to the championship game.

Siegrist was the sixth-highest scorer in the 2023 women's tournament, the other five spots held by LSU and Iowa players Clark, Angel Reese, Alexis Morris and Czinano, as well as Georgia Amoore from Virginia Tech, who scored 113 points to place third — all of whom made it to the Final Four.

Maddy Siegrist's 50-point game

Siegrist stunned the college world when she dropped a 50-burger at home against Seton Hall on Feb. 11 to set a career-high shooting an efficient 20-for-26 from the field.

"Right now, I'm just trying to make (sure) I go into every game giving everything I've got," Siegrist said at the time.

She certainly did that.
