The sale of the Connecticut Sun to Houston Rockets owner Tilman Fertitta appears to be progressing rapidly.

The Houston Chronicle has confirmed reporting from ESPN that the Mohegan tribe is in "late-stage discussions" to sell the Sun to Rockets ownership.

Once the sale is finalized, the Sun will play one final season at Mohegan Sun Arena in Connecticut next year before moving to Texas -- where they would be rebranded as the Houston Comets.

The Chronicle reports that Fertitta will pay "north of $250 million" to acquire the Sun, which has played in Connecticut since its relocation from Orlando, Fla. In 2003.

The original Comets franchise is historic. Under former Rockets owner Leslie Alexander, it won the first four WNBA championships between 1997 and 2000. Cynthia Cooper, Sheryl Swoopes and Tina Thompson are among the league icons who played for the franchise in its first iteration.

Like the original franchise that folded in 2008, the new Comets would play at Toyota Center, where the Rockets have played since 2003.

In addition, the Chronicle reports that the Comets and Rockets would share the NBA team's practice facility, which opened last year.
