Brazil was crowned champion of the 2025 AmeriCup after defeating Argentina 55-47 in the final in Nicaragua. Yago was MVP and one of the standout players with 14 points, 5 assists, and 2 rebounds.
It was the fifth continental gold medal for Brazil.
The first quarter was very even. Argentina imposed its rhythm with balanced scoring in the paint. Meanwhile, Brazil did a lot of damage when it was able to run. Gui Deodato finished the quarter with 9 points as Brazil led 16-15.
The start of the second quarter continued with nerves and poor decisions by both teams. Brazil took advantage when Juan Fernandez quickly committed his third foul.
The appearance of Bruno Caboclo was a welcome boost, helping Brazil grow its lead to 29-20. Two three-pointers from Yago and Argentina's lack of efficiency (30% from the field) were the keys to Aleksandar Petrovic's team's success, and Brazil took a 31-24 halftime lead.
Argentina started the third quarter better with a 4-0 run to close the gap. But Brazil reacted quickly. They took advantage of turnovers to pull away (39-28) after three-pointers from Caboclo, Georginho, and Yago.
Brazil's dominance grew with great defense, finding the way to a fast attack and frustrating the Argentine team, taking a 50-36 lead with 7 minutes left. Two runs by Negrete and a 3-pointer by Vildoza fueled Argentina's comeback and got them back in the game. But a huge 3-pointer by the experienced Vitor Benite dashed Argentina's hopes. Brazil managed the closing minutes better (55-47) and was crowned champion of the FIBA Americup 2025.
