There will be a new EuroBasket champion in 2025 after title holders Spain failed to advance to the knockout round at the quadrennial competition for the first time since 1989.
The early departure of the team that has won four of the last six titles opens the door for new blood to make its way through the bracket. So who will step up and take the opportunity?
Germany took bronze in 2022 and was one of two teams to go unbeaten in group play this time, along with Turkiye. Franz Wagner and Dennis Schroder will try to lead the Germans to their first crown since 1993, but they'll have plenty of competition — including a potential quarterfinal clash with Slovenia and Luka Doncic, who led all scorers with 32.4 points per game in group play.
France finished atop its group despite a surprising loss to Israel and faces a possible quarterfinal showdown with Nikola Jokic and Serbia. Giannis Antetokounmpo and Greece also will like their chances as they enter the knockout rounds, but home side Latvia could stand in their way.
