The Hobart International will make its long-awaited return to the tennis circuit following a two-year hiatus.

Hosted at Tasmania's Domain Tennis Centre from January 7, more than 50 of the world's top female players will be in attendance for the 28th edition of the WTA 250 level tournament.

32 singles players and 16 doubles pairs will feature in the week leading up to the Australian Open and will be battling it out for a share of the USD $250,000 prize money and world ranking points.

Grand Slam champion Sofia Kenin will take her place at the tournament alongside Elise Mertens, as well as Marie Bouzkova and Alize Cornet.

When is the Hobart International 1?

The Hobart International begins on January 9, 2023 and is scheduled to wrap up on January 14, 2023.

Hobart International field

No.24 Marie Bouzkova (CZE) and former champion Elise Mertens (BEL) headline an exciting group that will travel to Hobart to feature in the lead-up tournament to the Australian Open.

Grand Slam winner Sofia Kenin also comes into the action as a wildcard while Alize Cornet will look to heat up her preparations in the 28th edition of the Hobart International.

The event will host seven current top-50 players as well as four participants who have won WTA singles titles in 2022.

Cornet (2016), Mertens (2017, 2018) and Kenin (2019) are also returning champions to the Hobart International.

Where is the Hobart International held?

The Hobart International will be held at the Domain Tennis Centre, situated just north of the city's CBD.

Regarded as Tasmania's premier tennis facility, the venue can host up to 2,800 fans on its centre court, as well as holding an array of 18 courts in the surroundings.

Tickets for the Hobart International are available via Ticketmaster.

General admission tickets start at $25, with kids under 14 able to enter for free alongside a paying adult, including the finals.

Hobart International prize money

According to the WTA website, the total prize money up for grabs at the Hobart International in 2023 is $259,303, given it's a WTA250 level event.

This is a 5.71 per cent decrease from the 2020 edition. 

In 2020, the women's single champion won $43,000 while the runner-up pocketed $21,400.
