The 2024/25 season was one of the most underwhelming for Real Madrid in many years, as they finished second in La Liga - with no major trophies - despite boasting a star-studded squad.
Real Madrid's disappointing form also saw the dismissal of Carlo Ancelotti with Xabi Alonso instantly moved in to replace him as head coach.
Los Blancos also suffered with some major injuries, especially in defence, throughout the campaign. However, some players were also not satisfied with their limited game time at the Estadio Santiago Bernabeu including Arda Guler.
Guler arrived in Madrid from Fenerbahce in 2023, and despite being labelled as a mega-talent, the 20-year-old was unable to climb up Ancelotti's pecking order. He started in just 18 of the 44 appearances he made last season, registering five goals and nine assists.
With Alonso's appointment, many fans expect Guler to have a greater impact - despite being linked with a move away - if his situation does not improve.
Alonso appears ready to utilize Guler in a fresh role, and speaking ahead of Real Madrid's 3-1 Club World Cup win against Pachuca, the Spaniard referred hailed the youngster as 'special'.

"I agree with Arda that he needs to be closer to the ball. He’s a player that's special, because the more touches he has, the better plays and the team.
"The other day vs. Al Hilal, he had a very good impact in the second half, as he was close to where everything’s happening, I think that it helps him."
What did Real Madrid star Arda Guler say?
Following the win against Pachuca, where he netted the second goal for Real Madrid, Guler outline that he's 'happier now' with the La Liga giants.
"There's a lot more Arda to come at Real Madrid! I’m happier now."
Guler's current contract with Los Blancos runs until the summer of 2029. Up next for Real Madrid in the USA is a clash with RB Salzburg in their final group stage match, on June 26, at the Lincoln Financial Field, Pennsylvania.
