Real Madrid have been one of the most active clubs in the summer transfer window. Los Blancos are in a new era under Xabi Alonso.

While Real Madrid are looking at players who can instantly elevate their roster quality, they are also keeping an eye on future superstars.

As per reports via Diario AS, Los Blancos were the first movers in pursuit of Dutch sensation Kees Smit from AZ Alkmaar. The talented midfielder lit up the U19 Euros, guiding the Netherlands to victory in Romania.

Real Madrid believe that Smit has the potential to become a future superstar, and therefore, they want to lure him to the Spanish capital this summer ahead of their rivals.

The 19-year-old was unstoppable at the U19 Euros as he guided the Netherlands to their maiden European title at the U19 Euros. He finished as the top goalscorer and was also named the Player of the Tournament for his exploits.

Interestingly, arch rivals Barcelona were also monitoring the Dutch teenage sensation. But Real Madrid are reportedly front-runners to secure his services.

Who is Real Madrid's target Kees Smit?

Smit joined the AZ Alkmaar academy at the age of 9 in 2015, and he broke through the senior team in 2024.

He announced himself at this level during Alkmaar's Europa League encounter against Fenerbahce in a 3-1 win, where he got a goal and an assist in only 24 minutes of action.

Smit currently has a contract with AZ that runs until 2028, and therefore, they are under no compulsion to sell the 19-year-old midfielder this summer.

However, the Dutch outfit have demanded €25m ($29m) at least for the young sensation, according to reports in Dutch media.

According to reports, Smit is keen to move to Real Madrid, and sources close to the player have said playing for the Spanish outfit would be a dream come true.

Smit has great technical maturity, passing range and is also a massive creative outlet for his team. At 19, he brings a lot of composure and ball retention ability.

The youngster could turn out to be the tempo controller in midfield that Alonso wanted right from his arrival at the Spanish capital.
