Bayern Munich are already in a spot of bother with their transfer dealings in the transfer window this summer as they have released around 12 players and signed only three.
While they have a more than decent starting lineup, they are extremely short on backups and fringe players, and a couple of injuries could easily derail their 2025/26 campaign completely.
However, amid such issues, Bayern Munich are on the brink of losing their defensive stalwart, Dayot Upamecano, who is on Real Madrid's radar as his current contract come to an end in 2026 as per BILD.
The France International has been in talks with Bayern bosses over a contract extension but both parties haven't reached an agreement and hence the La Liga giants are circling around him.
Real Madrid are in desperate need of defenders and they see an opportunity here to snap up Upamecano on a free transfer next summer.
The 26-year-old has been in exceptional form over the last couple of seasons for the Bavarians and is easily their leader in defense. So, in general, it will be a big blow for Vincent Kompany's men if they lose out on the Frenchman.

As per reports, Upamecano's contract talks are on hold due to his differing salary demands with the Bayern Munich hierarchy.
Why are Real Madrid chasing Bayern Munich ace Upamecano?
Xabi Alonso wants to overhaul the Real Madrid backline and therefore they have signed players like Dean Huijsen, Trent Alexander-Arnold and Alvaro Carreras.

However, Los Blancos are still unsure over David Alaba's situation with his recent injuries and hence they are looking at options to replace the Austrian.
Even Antonio Rudiger is also entering the final year in his contract whereas Eder Militao has also struggled with incessant injuries and inconsistent form ever since making the switch to Madrid.
Earlier, there were reports regarding Liverpool's Ibrahima Konate, who remains a candidate to join Real Madrid as his contract also expires next summer.
Upamecano reportedly has joined the shortlist of defenders for Los Blancos as he brings great physicality, spatial awareness and exceptional recovery pace and would instantly improve Los Blancos defensively.
The 26-year-old has massively worked on his box defending and last-ditch tackles and could be a great fix in Alonso's system at the Spanish capital.
Interestingly, this same scenario happened with Bayern in 2021, when Real Madrid signed Alaba on a free transfer.
Apart from Real Madrid, clubs like Barcelona, Man United and Inter Milan are also reportedly interested in the Bayern Munich defender.
