Decision time: Rodrygo’s future at Real Madrid set for crucial week image

After Real Madrid's 3-0 win over Real Oviedo, Xabi Alonso made a statement on the whole squad being important for the entire season. The Spanish manager assured that he counts on every player for all the games this season.

Despite these encouraging words from Alonso, new reports suggest that Rodrygo's future at Real Madrid this season is still in doubt. With the transfer window near its end, the Brazilian winger may still leave the club as other clubs are expected to once again show interest.

Guillermo Rai and Mario Cortegana from The Athletic report that Rodrygo requested his agents to look for a move this summer, as the transfer window closes on September 1.

This last-minute request will surprise the clubs interested in Rodrygo this summer, as they believed the player was set to stay another season at Real Madrid. Rodrygo's future will be decided this week.

Rodrygo featured in Real Madrid's previous game against Real Oviedo, but he did not play the full game.

Rodrygo against Real Oviedo

Rodrygo started the match against Real Oviedo ahead of Vinicius Jr. The change was surprising for many Real Madrid fans, but Xabi Alonso's decision was a message to players in the squad.

No place in the starting lineup is secured, and Rodrygo played for 63 minutes against Real Oviedo, where he had four shots.

He had two shots on target and had one successful dribble. Rodrygo was substituted off and was replaced by Vinicius Jr., who would score and assist after coming on.

Rodrygo's reaction after sitting on the bench went viral, suggesting that the player is frustrated with the lack of minutes in the team.
