Nottingham Forest suffered a 3-2 loss against Danish club Midtjylland in their second match of the 2025/26 Europa League on October 2 at the City Ground.

Forest secured a victory in their opening match of the Premier League campaign. However, that turned out to be their only win so far, and after three league matches in August, the English club dismissed Nuno Espírito Santo and appointed Ange Postecoglou as their new head coach.

Since taking charge on September 9, Postecoglou has not led Nottingham to a win in any match across competitions. To make things worse, Forest were also eliminated from the third round of the Carabao Cup last month.

Nottingham currently rank 17th, just above the relegation zone in the top flight, with five points after six matches.

After a 2-2 draw against Real Betis in their Europa League opener last week, Forest failed to secure a win in their second match of the competition as well, drawing much criticism from fans and pundits.

Midtjylland's Valdemar Byskov netted the winning goal after the match was tied 2-2 till the 88th minute, denying Nottingham a chance to split a point each. This late third goal from the visitors at the City Ground saw many Forest supporters chanting "You're getting sacked in the morning," directed at Postecoglou.

Speaking after the match, Postecoglou addressed the fans' jeers, which continued as he walked down the tunnel at full-time, and mentioned, 'it is nothing' that he can 'control.'

What did Nottingham Forest boss Ange Postecoglou say?

Postecoglou became the first permanent Nottingham Forest manager in 100 years to have failed to win any of his first six matches in charge. During his post-match press conference, the 60-year-old coach said,

"The fans are disappointed. They are allowed to have an opinion on it. I heard their opinion. Nothing surprises me in football. It's the climate we're in. It seems that's the way things are going. It's nothing I can control," as per BBC Sport.

"My responsibility is to make sure we get some wins for this football club and progress it. I would prefer if people were optimistic in their outlook of what I'm doing. I can only change that by winning games of football."

Postecoglou further stated that he continues to believe in their process irrespective of their current form and results, and added,

"Irrespective, that's not going to change the way I'm taking things on. I really believe in the process of what we're doing and I don't think we're far away from being the team that can eradicate the situation we're in at the moment and get the results."

It remains to be seen if Postecoglou is able to lead Forest to a much-needed win in their next Premier League match against Newcastle United on October 5 at St. James' Park.
