Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have taken Wrexham on a wild ride, but one Welsh voice is urging them not to take the Cristiano Ronaldo exit off-ramp.
Wrexham’s journey through the football league has been nothing short of a fairytale.
From the depths of the National League to the bright lights of the Championship in just three seasons, the story has captured the imagination of fans around the world.
But now that the Red Dragons are breathing Premier League air, the question arises: What’s next?
Some fans and media have floated the name of one of football’s biggest icons — Cristiano Ronaldo. But Welsh comedian and football lover Elis James isn’t having any of it.
Speaking to William Hill Sports Book of the Year, James made it clear that bringing Ronaldo to North Wales would be, in his words, “utterly insane.”

'Why Elis James warns Wrexham on signing Cristiano Ronaldo?
While Ronaldo's move might light up Wrexham’s Instagram feed, it could torch the club’s budget.
The 40-year-old forward reportedly earns around £3 million a week at Al-Nassr. Even Deadpool might struggle to cover that tab.
“Wrexham co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney have gone about things the right way,” said James. “They’ve been very respectful to the area, the traditions of the club and the Welsh language.”
He added, “The idea of a marquee signing like Cristiano Ronaldo would be incredible for the social media profile of the club, but the costs involved would be utterly insane.”
James praised the duo’s serious approach to the project and urged them to stay grounded. “There are far more sensible ways of spending their money,” he said.
As Wrexham prepares for life in the Championship, manager Phil Parkinson will surely look to strengthen the squad.
But fans hoping to see CR7 running down the wing at the Racecourse Ground may want to cool their jets.
Ronaldo might have GOAT status, but in this case, it sounds like he’s just not worth the bleat.
