The 2025 Ballon d'Or threw up the most open and competitive field in years for the top individual award in men's football.
Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri lifted the prize — amid much chagrin in Madrid — last year, but an ACL injury suffered last September means he is out of the running this time.
Paris Saint-Germain were Europe's dominant team in 2024/25 and eight of Luis Enrique's treble winners made the shortlist, with star forward Ousmane Dembele seen as their most likely winner.

Liverpool hero Mohamed Salah and Barcelona wingers Raphinha and Lamine Yamal were also firmly in the conversation.
There was a familiar Barcelona flavour to the Ballon d'Or Feminin nominations list, where the imperious Aitana Bonmati was in contention for a third successive triumph.
