West Ham United are in a good place as a club at the moment, with their positive 2021/22 campaign resulting in qualification for the UEFA Europa Conference League in 2022/23.

David Moyes has moulded a side than can exceed expectations and will hope that he can repeat the trick in the upcoming Premier League season despite evident strengthening from rival sides.

The Irons will have to try to accomplish this task without the leadership of former captain Mark Noble, although his departure will surely pave the way for more young talent to step up to the plate.

Confirmed transfers in

West Ham have made just one notable signing so far this window, in the form of centre-back Nayef Aguerd from Rennes.

The Morocco international has signed a five-year deal at the London Stadium, with the Hammers having agreed a fee of around £30 million/$36.8 million with the Ligue 1 side.

According to reports, West Ham have also opened talks with Jesse Lingard over a possible free transfer. The England international, who enjoyed a strong loan spell at the club in 2020/21, is leaving Manchester United when his contract expires.

Confirmed transfers out

West Ham has seen no fewer than six notable individuals leave upon the conclusion of 2021/22, all for various reasons.

Influential captain Mark Noble has hung up his boots, whereas Ryan Fredericks, Andriy Yarmolenko, and David Martin all left upon their contracts expiring in east London. The former, Fredericks, has completed a move to Bournemouth on a free transfer.

Alphonse Areola and Alex Kral have also departed due to their loan deals expiring at West Ham, though there is talk that Areola may be close to signing permanently from PSG.

New contracts

No new contract deals are on the horizon for West Ham at the moment, which may come as a worry to Hammers supporters as key players such as Declan Rice, Tomas Soucek and Michail Antonio move into the last two years of their deals.

Returning loanees

West Ham will also see several loanees return to the club this summer, with most of them sent out to get game time to avoid being on the fringes at the club.

There may be an opportunity in preseason for some of these talented youngsters to impress Moyes going into 2022/23, with the likes of Conor Coventry, Mipo Odubeko and Goncalo Cardoso in particular showing real promise.
