TL;DR

  • Tottenham Hotspur hosts Chelsea in a crucial Premier League London derby on Saturday.
  • Spurs aim to secure a top-three spot despite recent League Cup defeat and injuries.
  • Chelsea seeks to rebound from a league loss, facing their own significant absentee list.
  • The match kicks off Saturday at 1:30 p.m. ET and is streamed live on Fubo in Canada.

Tottenham Hotspur will aim to tighten their grip on a top-three spot in the Premier League when they lock horns with Chelsea in a high-stakes London showdown on Saturday evening.

The Blues enter the contest buoyed by five wins in their last six outings across competitions, but their old habit of slipping up at key moments resurfaced in their most recent league fixture, a 2-1 home defeat to Sunderland.

Meanwhile, the mood in North London is far from settled. Thomas Frank’s Spurs were dealt a harsh reality check midweek, as they fell to Newcastle United’s aerial dominance in a humbling League Cup defeat at St James’ Park.

The Sporting News looks at the key details ahead of this game, including how to watch the match, kickoff times and the latest lineup news.

Team updates, lineups

Heading into Saturday’s clash, Thomas Frank is without a host of first-team players, with Yves Bissouma, Kota Takai, Dominic Solanke (all ankle), Radu Dragusin, Dejan Kulusevski, James Maddison (all knee), and Ben Davies (thigh) all ruled out.

To make matters worse, Cristian Romero (adductor), Destiny Udogie (knee), Archie Gray (calf), and Wilson Odobert (abdominal) will all require late fitness checks before being cleared for action.

There is, however, a silver lining for Spurs fans, goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario, who missed the Newcastle game due to precautionary reasons, has been declared fit and ready to return.

Meanwhile, Micky van de Ven is also back in the mix and should slot straight into defense, bringing some much-needed stability to the backline. Further up the pitch, Mohammed Kudus, Mathys Tel, and Randal Kolo Muani are all pushing for starting spots as Tottenham look to rediscover their attacking spark.

Tottenham predicted XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Vicario (GK)  Porro, Danso, Van de Ven, Spence  Bentancur, Palhinha  Kudus, Bergvall, Simons  Kolo Muani.

Over in the Chelsea camp, Enzo Maresca's selection headache continues for very different reasons. The Blues will be without Liam Delap after his midweek red card against Wolves. The young forward's suspension adds to an already lengthy absentee list that includes Cole Palmer (groin), Dario Essugo (thigh), Benoit Badiashile (muscle), Levi Colwill (knee), and Mykhaylo Mudryk (serving a doping suspension).

Maresca experimented with Joao Pedro and Marc Guiu in central attacking roles during the Sunderland match, but Andrey Santos’ lively performance could earn him a starting nod this weekend.

Jamie Gittens, despite bagging a goal and two assists in midweek, may find himself on the bench to make way for a refreshed Alejandro Garnacho as Chelsea aim to capitalize on a depleted Spurs side.

Chelsea predicted XI (4-2-3-1, right to left): Sanchez (GK) James, Tosin, Chalobah, Cucurella — Caicedo, Fernandez — Neto, Estevao, Garnacho — Pedro.
