What is the Premier League record for most managers sacked in a season? image

The Premier League isn't a safe place for any manager with clubs not afraid to make changes after a few bad results.

With so much on the line in the competition, managers know that any slump in form could quickly see their job put in jeopardy.

Few leagues around the world can match the Premier League when it comes to managerial changes each season and the competition keeps raising the bar when it comes to sackings.

The 2022/23 season has seen a new record set for the number of managers sacked and there's still several games to be played meaning that number could still grow.

What is the Premier League record for managers sacked in a season?

The new record for most Premier League managers sacked in a single season currently sits at 14.

The 2022/23 season broke the previous record of 10 which was first set in 2013/14 and matched in 2017/18 and 2021/22.

This new record was set on April 2, 2023 when Leicester City and Chelsea sacked Brendan Rodgers and Graham Potter on the same day.

Both managers lost their final games in charge the day prior with their clubs deciding a change was needed.

Chelsea had already sacked a manager this season in the form of Thomas Tuchel with his replacement lasting just over six months.

Potter's original departure from Brighton this season notably isn't counted as a sacking as he left of his own accord to take charge of the Blues.

Premier League managers sacked in 2022/23

The list of Premier League managers sacked in the 2022/23 season has quickly grown long.

Scott Parker was the first to be axed when Bournemouth made an early change, with Chelsea adding Tuchel to the list just a week later.

From March 17 to April 2, four different Premier League managers were sacked as clubs tried to change things before it was too late.

Southampton and Chelsea notably both sacked two managers in 2022/23.

The latest departures saw Cristian Stellini sacked from his position as interim coach at Spurs despite only being in the hot seat for a month after replacing Antonio Conte. On May 3, Leeds parted ways with Javi Gracia before appointing Sam Allarydce for the final four matches of the season.
