Any player looking to make a move to a new club only six months out from the World Cup better get it right.

If you end up in the wrong place and are missing playing time or end up in bad form, it could ruin chances of suiting up for your national team at the big event.

That's the spot Dayne St. Clair finds himself in.

The goalkeeper could certainly make Canada's roster for the 2026 World Cup, which is being co-hosted by his home nation.

But right now, he's a free agent, and he has to decide what to do next.

St. Clair was the Goalie of the Year in MLS this season for Minnesota United, which has a chance to get him back.

"A return to Minnesota still makes the most sense, but now it’s possible it won’t happen," The Athletic's Tom Bogert wrote on Tuesday. "If no deal is reached, any team who wants to sign a goalkeeper this year should be calling his representation immediately."

There might be a lot of teams in the market, Bogert added.

"A sample of teams who could be in the market this winter includes: Orlando City, Nashville SC, the New York Red Bulls, Toronto FC, Atlanta United, D.C. United, San Jose Earthquakes, LA Galaxy and Sporting KC," Bogert wrote.

With so many teams potentially in on the goalie position, it'll be interesting to see if St. Clair's market moves quickly or takes time for some bidding.

Whatever happens, St. Clair has to get it right.
