On 18 June 2010, Olympiacos entered a new era. Evangelos Marinakis, a prominent shipping magnate with lifelong ties to the club, assumed ownership of Greece’s most successful football team.

Fifteen years later, Olympiacos is a transformed institution, dominant at home and now a respected name across Europe. During Marinakis' leadership, Olympiacos has secured 11 Greek Super League titles and five Greek Cups, including five domestic doubles.

Their supremacy has been supported by sustained investment in infrastructure, scouting, and academy development, which has fortified their long-term competitiveness.

The 2023–24 season was historic. Olympiacos became the first Greek club to win a European trophy, lifting the UEFA Europa Conference League after defeating Fiorentina in the final and achieved an unprecedented double by also winning the UEFA Youth League, all in the same campaign.

Off the pitch, the club recorded a record transfer last week: 18‑year‑old forward Charalampos Kostoulas joined Brighton for €40 million, approximately $45.9 million at today’s exchange rate.

It remains the highest fee ever paid for a Greek-developed player, reinforcing Olympiacos’ model of nurturing home-grown talent for international profit.

Under head coach Jose Luis Mendilibar, the first team blends seasoned professionals with rising stars. Alongside Kostoulas, promising prospects such as Christos Mouzakitis, Antonis Papakanellos, Lorenzo Pirola, Santiago Hezze, and Konstantinos Tzolakis provide both sporting contribution and future financial upside.

Olympiacos has also achieved its highest UEFA club coefficient ranking in recent memory. Their five-year coefficient places them 37th in Europe, and in the ten-year ranking they sit 33rd. making them the top Greek club by a clear margin.

Domestically, the club continues to dominate, having won the 2024-25 Super League, its 48th Greek league title, and secured direct qualification to next season’s Champions League group stage, thanks to their elevated UEFA ranking.

Beyond football, Marinakis has backed the broader Olympiacos sporting institution, which has now amassed 332 titles across men’s and women’s team sports.

Combined with enhanced stadium and training facilities, the club now stands as a benchmark of success, professionalism and social responsibility.

Fifteen years on, Marinakis has delivered more than just silverware.

He has crafted a club architecturally and financially robust, competitive on European terms and deeply rooted in youth development.

Olympiacos’ journey from national giant to continental contender is now an example for other clubs in Greece to follow.
