Despite starting off the season with an undefeated streak in the league, the Herons have slipped off as of late, managing only one win in their last five league matches.
After being two goals behind in the first half against Philadelphia, Inter Miami managed a much better display in the second half, with Lionel Messi scoring the second goal for the Herons with a spectacular free-kick in the 87th minute.
While fans are in awe of the Argentine icon's efforts on the pitch for Inter Miami, many are worried about Messi's future at the MLS club, especially after his recent comment on it.
Messi's current contract with Miami is set to expire by the end of this year and when asked about signing a new one after their loss against Orlando City on May 18, the 37-year-old said that he 'does not know anything.'
Now, reporters have asked Inter Miami head coach Javier Mascherano to share some insight into Messi's future.

What did Javier Mascherano say about Lionel Messi's future at Inter Miami?
During his post-match press conference, Mascherano addressed Messi's contract situation and mentioned (comments via World Soccer Talk) that while he is not in charge of making that decision, the Argentine coach hopes the renewal happens 'as soon as possible.'
"I’m not the one who should speak on this. There’s a sporting department responsible for these decisions. As a coach, I hope Messi renews as soon as possible. The fans and the whole club need that peace of mind. I’m not involved in negotiations, I have no idea what’s happening, but we hope to hear good news soon," said Mascherano.
Back in April, Inter Miami co-owner, Jorge Mas assured fans that Messi is set to sign a new contract soon that will keep the eight-time Ballon d'Or winner at the club until the end of the 2026 season.
The Herons are set to return to MLS action on May 28, against CF Montreal at Chase Stadium. It remains to be seen if and when Inter Miami fans receive the good news of Messi's contract extension.
