Chelsea, Manchester United and Liverpool have been active in the summer transfer window. The only other thing similar between the three teams is their interest in signing a new centre-back.

All three clubs, including Tottenham Hotspur, have enquired about Everton's defensive stalwart Jarrad Branthwaite.

The Englishman has been one of the most consistent defenders in the Premier League in recent seasons. He was a big part of Everton's resurgence last season under David Moyes.

However, as per recent updates from Sky Sports journalist Lyall Thomas, Branthwaite is all set to sign a fresh contract extension with Everton.

The young defender is keen to continue his growth at Goodison Park under Moyes instead of moving to a bigger club where his gametime could be potentially under threat.

Branthwaite's current contract with Everton runs until 2027, but the Toffees were aware of his demand in the market and decided to tie him down with a long-term contract with an improved salary.

According to SalarySport, Branthwaite currently earns £40,000 a week, which, considering his role at Everton, is pretty low. So the Merseyside club acted swiftly and are all set to hand him a new and improved contract.

Who is Everton defensive stalwart Jarrad Baranthwaite?

In the last couple of seasons, Branthwaite has developed into one of the best young defenders in the Premier League.

His youth career started at Carlisle United before moving to Everton in 2020. He had a couple of loan stints at Blackburn Rovers and PSV Eindhoven before becoming a mainstay at Merseyside.

He has formed a great defensive partnership with James Tarkowski at Everton and played a big part in helping the Toffees resist relegation in the 2023/24 campaign.

Branthwaite continued his exceptional form in the 2024/25 campaign, where he featured in 32 matches across competitions.

The promising centre-back has great aerial prowess due to his towering presence. He is a traditional no-nonsense style defender who is known for his positional awareness, strong tackles and clearances.
