EAST RUTHERFORD, NJ — The 2025 FIFA Club World Cup had hoped to highlight the ability of the United States to hold top-class global sporting events.

All across the country, matches were held to see the first edition of the expanded competition play to a dramatic conclusion. Thirty-two teams from around the globe convened to determine the champion of the club football universe.

At the end of the tournament, Premier League side Chelsea met the defending UEFA Champions League winners Paris Saint-Germain, with the Blues stunning PSG 3-0 for the title.

With the 2025 tournament concluding and America turning toward hosting the 2026 FIFA World Cup, the U.S. president was in the stands at the final at MetLife Stadium.

Donald Trump attends 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final

U.S. President Donald Trump was in attendance at MetLife Stadium in East Rutherford, NJ when Chelsea took on PSG in the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup final on Sunday.

Trump told reporters on Tuesday that he would be at the game, spending the weekend at his Bedminster golf resort beforehand.

The U.S. president has forged a close relationship with FIFA chief Gianni Infantino, who sat alongside him and his wife Melania at Meadowlands. World football's governing body announced Monday it would open an office in New York City's Trump Tower. Infantino has made two separate appearances in the final week of the Club World Cup at Trump Tower, and he has accompanied Trump on multiple trips abroad.

According to reports, Trump's appearance at the game could potentially cost upwards of $2.5 million when considering the massive security required for such a public appearance at a crowded venue.

It's not the first time a major U.S. political official has attended a Club World Cup match this summer, as J.D. Vance was on hand to watch Borussia Dortmund defeat Ulsan at TQL Stadium in Cincinnati earlier in the month-long tournament.

Ever searching for the spotlight, Donald Trump inserted himself into the Chelsea trophy celebration as the Blues lifted the inaugural version of the expanded FIFA Club World Cup.

Trump carried over the trophy along with FIFA president Gianni Infantino and handed it to Chelsea captain Reece James. While Infantino, a veteran of these celebrations, stepped aside, Trump remained behind and clapped while James lifted the trophy and his team celebrated.

Trump also handed out the individual awards, such as the Golden Ball to Player of the Tournament Cole Palmer, who admitted after the match that he didn't expect Trump to remain on stage: "I knew he was going to be there, but I didn’t know he was going to be on the stand for the trophy lift. I was a bit confused, yeah."
