Crystal Palace vs. Nottingham Forest score: Premier League result, highlights as EPL grudge match ends level image

Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest played out a 1-1 draw at Selhurst Park on Sunday as the Premier League's new grudge match failed to match up fully to the pre-game tension.

Ismaila Sarr's first-half goal was cancelled out in the second period by Callum Hudson-Odoi, who squeezed a shot past former Forest goalkeeper Dean Henderson after a stunning pass from Dan Ndoye.

Omari Hutchinson came close to winning it for Forest in the closing stages, as did Igor Jesus, who crashed a shot off the crossbar in injury time.

A draw was largely a fair result, albeit one that may not ease the uncertainty around Nuno Espirito Santo, whose position has come under scrutiny amid his own claims that his relationship with owner Evangelos Marinakis has deteriorated. The Forest boss applauded the travelling fans after the final whistle, and they responded by chanting his name loudly.

While these teams historically have few reasons to dislike one another, the events of the last few months have changed all that. UEFA's decision to demote Palace from the Europa League to the Conference League, the role Forest played in that affair, and the fact Nuno's team took their place in that competition have created huge animosity between the clubs.

There was an additional pre-match police presence as authorities sought to limit the risk of clashes between rival fans, but the game itself never quite ignited.

Palace have two points from their opening two games, while Forest are on four.

Crystal Palace vs. Nottingham Forest live updates, commentary, highlights

Fulltime

It ends level, which is just about right on the balance of play. It wasn't quite the slugfest many predicted.

57 mins: GOAL! FOREST ARE LEVEL! It's Callum Hudson-Odoi with the equaliser: the finish from 12 yards out had too much on it for Dean Henderson, but WHAT a pass from Dan Ndoye to set the goal-scorer on his way!

Kickoff: Second half

Let's see if Forest can respond.

Halftime

That's that for the half. Palace still lead 1-0, and they've looked comfortable since the goal.

45+1 mins: OFF THE POST! Wharton's free-kick is lofted to the far stick, where Guehi stoops and nods the ball against the outside of the upright. So close to 2-0!

40 mins: Palace fans sing a rendition of "Fat boy, fat boy, what's the score?" No prizes for guessing who that is aimed at.

37 mins: GOAL! PALACE LEAD! Adam Wharton finds Daniel Munoz in space, on the right of the box. He sends in a low cross, and Ismaila Sarr, who had stepped back into acres of space, has a simple side-foot finish from six yards out.

34 mins: Morgan Gibbs-White should score! Chris Wood cushions the ball back across the box, where Forest's No. 10 is running onto it, but he mishits his shot horribly and it flies over the bar. That was a big chance.

29 mins: Finally, a save! Jean-Philippe Mateta has a go from the edge of the box. It's straight down the middle, and Matz Sels makes a fairly comfortable stop.

15 mins: There really hasn't been much to mention yet. It's all a bit uneventful. Devenny had one promising run, but the chance was smothered.

Kickoff: First half

We're off and running at a raucous Selhurst Park.

Crystal Palace vs. Nottingham Forest build-up: Protest, Nuno sack latest

All times local (BST)

13:35 p.m.: Nuno has been speaking to Sky Sports and made it clear he has not been trying to engineer a departure from the club.

"That's nonsense. Doesn't make any kind of sense. We are focused on the game and that is more important," he said. He added that "of course" he still wants to be Forest manager.

On having a discussion with the owner and director Edu about transfers, he said: "Yes, that's what we need to do and we're going to do it. There is no speculation around anything. What we have to do is communicate and approach the final days of the market and prepare our boys."

13:22 p.m.: Palace have seen fit to issue a reminder to supporters about in-stadium behaviour.

12:43 p.m.: We have some team news! Marc Guehi starts today's game, despite the uncertainty over his future. In fact, the only change from the draw at Chelsea last weekend is Justin Devenny, who comes in for the departed Eberechi Eze. Forest, meanwhile, are unchanged from the victory over Brentford. New signings Douglas Luiz and Arnaud Kalimuendo are on the bench.

12:41 p.m.: So, what's going on with Nuno? Well, what we do know is he will take charge of Forest for today's game. That's pretty much the only certainty we have. Reports suggest Forest owner Evangelos Marinakis was taken aback by Nuno's comments about their relationship deteriorating, which has hardly helped to foster a sense of cohesion.

12:29 p.m.: As can be seen from this photo by The Athletic's Daniel Taylor, there is a large police presence here today. The Forest bus is being given plenty of security.

12 p.m.: Fans are expected to stage a protest today in response to UEFA's decision to demote Palace to the Conference League, and the perceived role Forest played in that process. Meanwhile, Nuno is reportedly facing the sack. It's all kicking off — and the game hasn't even kicked off yet.

Palace are still without Chadi Riad and Cheick Doucoure, who are both long-term absentees following knee injuries and are not expected back until late autumn.

Eddie Nketiah is still sidelined with a thigh problem that will keep him out until mid-October, while Matheus Franca is recovering from an adductor issue and will not feature this weekend. Caleb Kporha also remains unavailable with a back injury and has no return date set.

Will Hughes keeps his place in midfielder due to Daichi Kamada's injury.
