Biggest Club World Cup win of all time: Bayern's demolition of Auckland is highest-scoring victory in FIFA tournament history image

When FIFA unveiled its expanded 32-team Club World Cup, one obvious flaw was the risk of wildly uneven mismatches between some of the strongest clubs in world football and outgunned outsiders.

Just two games into the 2025 tournament, those fears emphatically came to pass.

After Lionel Messi's Inter Miami and Egyptian giants Al Ahly played out an action-packed, goalless draw on opening night, 34-time German champions Bayern Munich faced Auckland City in Ohio.

Auckland have won the past four editions of the OFC Champions League, but they also have a squad comprised of amateur players.

Opta's Power Rankings gave a hint of what might unfold before the game. Bayern are placed sixth overall, while they have Auckland pegged as the 5,074th-best club team in the world.

That gulf duly played out a TQL Stadium. Vincent Kompany's team romped into a 6-0 halftime lead, and Jamal Musiala's second-half hat-trick propelled them toward a 10-0 victory.

Biggest Club World Cup wins of all time

It's little surprise that, in this and the competition's other iterations, no other team has handed out such a beating. Below is the list of the biggest wins at the Club World Cup.

Bayern's exploits in Ohio are likely to take some shifting, even if further gross mismatches are inevitable within this brainchild of FIFA president Gianni Infantino.

Biggest Club World Cup wins

  • Bayern Munich 10-0 Auckland City FC* (2025)
  • Al Hilal 6-1 Al Jazira (2021)
  • Esperance 6-2 Al Sadd (2019)
  • Monterrey 5-1 Al Ahly (2013)
  • Santos 0-4 Barcelona (2011)
  • Manchester City 4-0 Fluminense (2023)

Kingsley Coman and Michael Olise each netted first-half doubles, while the departing veteran Thomas Muller got a goal in each half. Those were Bayern goals 249 and 250 for Muller. Sacha Boey registered his first for the club.

Bayern now lead the way for the biggest Club World Cup wins, a distinction previously held by Al Hilal for their 6-1 win over Al Jazira in 2021.

The 4-0 wins for Barcelona and Manchester City, over Santos and Fluminense respectively, each came in Pep Guardiola-coached finals.
