Germany have recovered from their early blemishes in the World Cup qualifiers as they registered a 4-0 win over Luxembourg on Friday at the PreZero Arena in Sinsheim.

With this win, Die Mannschaft have returned to the top of Goup A of the World Cup qualifiers as Slovakia lost to North Ireland.

Bayern Munich midfield ace Joshua Kimmich returned with a brilliant brace whereas David Raum and Serge Gnabry also chipped in with goals.

Kimmich, who predominantly a midfielder has featured at right-back multiple times for club and country in the past.

Given Nagelsmann's options, he decided to field the 30-year-old at right-back with Bayern duo of Aleksandar Pavlovic and Leon Goretzka featuring in the midfield pivot.

Kimmich delivered a great performance in an unnatural position and after the game he shared he is completely open to play in a different role for Germany if the manager demands.

"In the end the coach decides. I clearly said that I'm happy to play where the coach sees me. At Bayern I'm very clearly a #6. In the national team the coach decides," Kimmich told the reporters after the game when asked if he will continue to play as a right-back for Germany.

Kimmich emphasizes on the importance of the win

Kimmich has been one of the most consistent players for Bayern Munich over the last few years as he brings creativity and control in the middle of the park.

The 30-year-old has been extremely crucial in Vincent Kompany's system as the Belgian has led the club to 10 straight wins this season.

However, Germany's dearth of fullbacks has forced Nagelsmann to turn to Kimmich, who has probably done the best job featuring as right-back in recent years.

Therefore, Kimmich has often featured on the right flank for Germany especially even though he has preferred playing in midfield.

While it was only Luxembourg his performance at right-back was really good last night and it will be interesting to see how he fares against tougher opponents.

But it was a much-needed win for Die Mannschaft as they started their qualifiers campaign with an away defeat to Slovakia.

But since then, they have won against Northern Ireland and Luxembourg and Slovakia lost to Northern Ireland to allow Germany to reclaim their position at the top of Group A in WC qualifiers.

"It was important to win, but also the way we played. The principles and the attitude were there. We've seen from the first minute that we were determined to win. We had good energy, we defended the transitions well, the pressing was good, the set pieces were good. It was a step in the right direction," Kimmich added after the 4-0 win.

Germany will hope to carry the same momentum into their next qualifier clash against Northern Ireland on Monday, October 13 at Windsor Park in Belfast.

Both teams are heading into this game with wins, and it will be interesting to see Kimmich continue as a right-back.
