Barcelona players 2022/23: Updated squad, jersey numbers for La Liga, UEFA Champions League, Copa del Rey & Supercopa

After failing to win a trophy in 2021-22, Barcelona will be eyeing a much more successful season over the next nine months. 

Despite the club's financial difficulties, Xavi has been given the power to bring in some key new players.

The Catalan club have spent over €150 million (£127m/$153m) over the offseason to sign Raphinha, Robert Lewandowski and Jules Kounde alone. 

Their arrivals will shake things up in the Barca squad with some existing players now facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou.

Xavi has assembled a side bursting with attacking potential this season. 

From new signings Lewandowksi and Raphinha to established regulars Ousmane Dembele and Ansu Fati, Barcelona don't look like they'll be short on goals this season. 

Marc-Andre ter Stegen has notably few challengers as starting goalkeeper with Inaki Pena the only back-up after the departure of Neto to Bournemouth. 

Defensively, Xavi has stocked up on centre-backs with Jules Kounde and Andreas Christensen both arriving. 

Fellow new arrival Franck Kessie also looks ready to bolster Barca's midfield which already boasts talented youngster Pedri and veteran Sergio Busquets. 

Lewandowski has unsurprisingly taken the No.9 jersey for the 2022-23 season with Ferran Torres shifting to No.11.

Former Barcelona midfielder Xavi is embarking on his first full season in charge of the club after arriving in November 2021. 

The 42-year-old won 54.1 per cent of his matches in charge last season and will aiming for greater success in 2022-23. 

He'll be helped by brother Oscar Hernandez, who will be one of Xavi's assistant coaches, along with Sergio Alegre. 

How will Barcelona line up this season?

After bringing in five new players over the summer, Barcelona's starting side will look significantly different in 2022-23. 

Xavi favoured a 4-3-3 formation at Camp Nou last season and stuck with that starting shape in preseason.

Based on Barcelona's current squad, one likely line-up would look like this:

Ter Stegen - Bellerin, Christensen, Kounde, Alba - Kessie, Busquets, Pedri - Dembele, Lewandowski, Raphinha.

The recent addition on Kounde, however, has led to reports that Xavi may be considering deploying a 3-4-3 moving forward - a formation he used at Al Saad previously. 

Such a shift would allow Barcelona to make the most of their many centre-backs, while giving the side a greater presence in midfield. 

A 3-4-3 formation for Barcelona this season could look like this:

Ter Stegen - Kounde, Christensen, Kounde - Bellerin, Kessie, Busquets, Pedri - Dembele, Lewandowski, Raphinha.

Both formations leave the likes of Gerard Pique, Ronald Araujo, Fati, Torres, Frenkie de Jong and Memphis Depay on the bench - highlighting the depth on offer for Xavi this season.

Can Barcelona register players for La Liga this season?

Having assembled a star-studded squad for the 2022-23 season, Barcelona were left battling to meet La Liga's financial fair play rules. 

A key part of those rules involve salary limits for each team based on income with clubs unable to register new players if they exceed them. 

After initially struggling to balance their books, the Catalan club managed to register all of their new players in September with Kounde initially unable to play in La Liga. 

The late exits of Martin Braithwaite, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Miralem Pjanic have also allowed Barcelona to meet La Liga salary rules.
