Nick Woltemade has arrived at Newcastle United carrying the weight of expectation after a record-breaking summer transfer from VfB Stuttgart.

The 23-year-old striker scored 17 goals in 33 games last season and is also the youngest Bundesliga debutant in Werder Bremen history after making his first appearance at 17 years old in 2020

Germany international is now expected to make his Premier League debut as Eddie Howe’s side search for their first league win of the season against Wolves at St James’ Park

Woltemade will join a Newcastle squad that has scored only twice across three matches, leaving them 17th with two points.

With Yoane Wissa also signed, Newcastle fans expect goals but club legend Les Ferdinand has urged caution.

What Ferdinand said about Woltemade?

Former Newcastle striker, who scored 50 goals in 84 appearances during a spell that made him a legend on Tyneside has expressed admiration for the player’s potential but warned him about the Premier League intensity.

“He’s untried in the Premier League. It’s going to be a tough test for him. It was important that they brought Wissa in as that will take a bit of the pressure off of Woltemade," he said to Sky Sports News.

“He’s not what I would call a traditional type of centre-forward who plays through the middle."

"He likes to come off the wing a little bit. I suppose the modern centre-forward nowadays wants to come off the left and use their right foot and score goals coming in from the side. That is what he has more traditionally done where he has been.”

“It will be interesting to see how he fits in to the Premier League. Tough ask to fill Isak’s boots, but given time hopefully he can settle and do the job Newcastle fans would like him to do.”
