Newcastle United icon Alan Shearer has expressed his opinion on the Magpies' new summer signing, Yoane Wissa's decision over the September international break.

Wissa signed for Newcastle for a reported fee of £50m from Brentford on deadline day after missing the majority of pre-season sessions with the Bees as he pursued a summer switch to the Magpies.

Right after making the move to St. James' Park, Wissa joined the DR Congo squad for the international break in September and returned to his new club with a knee injury.

Wissa is yet to train with his new teammates at Newcastle due to his injury and has already missed seven games for the Magpies so far.

Now, Shearer has mentioned that Wissa 'could've shown more responsibility' with regards to his decision over the international break last month.

What did Alan Shearer say about Newcastle's Yoane Wissa?

Shearer stated that he believes Wissa, who has not made his debut for Newcastle yet, 'needs to show some loyalty' towards the Magpies, making a 'tough' choice about the upcoming Africa Cup Of Nations slated for December and January, and told Betfair,

"It will be a really difficult decision for Wissa not to go to AFCON because you always want to represent your country. But what I would say is, because of him not training or playing during the summer, he could've shown more responsibility in not playing as much as he did in those two games when he went away on international duty and hadn't played at all," as per The Mirror.

"But it's really tough to say to someone they can't and won't represent their country when it means so much. And we know AFCON is huge and players want to play in that tournament. It'll be a tough ask, but I understand that there'll be a lot of people thinking that he's never played for Newcastle and he needs to show some loyalty towards us."

"I get it and understand that point-of-view because Newcastle shelled out a lot of money on him and he hasn't been able to take to the St James' Park turf as yet. It'd be a really tough decision for him and Newcastle. Whether there's a way around it, I'm not so sure."

With a delay in his recovery, Wissa is now expected to return to action and finally make his debut for Newcastle in their Premier League clash against West Ham on November 2 at London Stadium.
