Liverpool’s pursuit of Marc Guehi has reached a critical stage, with negotiations now centered on key things that could dictate whether the deal is completed before the transfer window closes.

It is well known that discussions between the Reds and Crystal Palace have been ongoing for weeks, with the Reds reportedly recently tabling a £35m [$47m] bid.

However, Palace chairman Steve Parish is holding out for a figure closer to £45m [$60m], according to the Independent.

Eagles are weighing whether cashing in on their captain now is worthwhile or if keeping him for the final 12 months of his contract will bring greater value.

Reportedly, Guehi himself is pushing for the move. Now, the Belgian journalist Sacha Tavolieri has reported that the defender has already informed his management that he wants to join Liverpool.

Yet Tavolieri stressed that the Palace wants to find a replacement before sanctioning his departure.

That condition remains the obstacle, and Palace have already begun exploring solutions.

Crystal Palace are reportedly assessing Rennes talent Jeremy Jacquet as a potential successor if Guehi heads to Anfield.

The 20-year-old, valued at £35m [$47m], spent last season on loan at Clermont Foot before moving to the Brittany-based club.

Last season, he featured in 29 matches across all competitions, scoring twice and providing two assists.

While Palace are interested, no deal has been agreed, leaving Guehi’s future unresolved.

For Liverpool, the belief inside Anfield is that the deal will eventually get done, with BBC describing it as one with “legs.”
