Andy Robertson is not ready to give up on Liverpool's Premier League title hopes despite the sapping 3-0 loss to Manchester City.

Sunday's defeat soured what had been a restorative week for Arne Slot's reigning champions. Victory over Aston Villa at Anfield ended a run of four consecutive top-flight losses and preceded a stirring 1-0 Champions League success versus Real Madrid.

Liverpool have now lost more Premier League games this season than they did during the entirety of 2024/25 and lie eighth, eight points shy of leaders Arsenal.

However, the table from City in second downwards is heavily congested. Arne Slot's side are four points behind their weekend conquerors, while being three points better off than Everton in 13th.

For experienced left-back Robertson, stringing together consistent performances and wins must be the immediate target after Liverpool fell so far short against Pep Guardiola's men.

"I don't think you can talk about the title this early on in the season, regardless of what position you're in," he told reporters. "But you need to then consistently start winning games again for that to even come into question. It's definitely not a question that's getting spoken about in the changing room or anything.

"We just need to get back to the levels that we know we can, the levels that we brought to the last two games in particular. If we do that on a more regular basis, then we'll pick up more points than we won't. That's what we need to get back to, then let's see where we are.

"Obviously, we've given ourselves a huge uphill battle, but I don't think any of the teams will really look at the league table until we're halfway through. That's what we've got to do, but we've got to pick up points on a more consistent basis. Then let's see where we are after Christmas time or whatever. We've just got to focus on ourselves and focus on performance levels."

After the game, Slot said that City's 2-0 advantage at halftime was deserved but with a significant caveat. At 1-0, Virgil van Dijk had a header from Mohamed Salah's right-wing corner ruled out for offside.

The culprit — if such a word can be applied effectively to the situation — was Robertson, who was stationed in an offside position in front of City goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma. But he did not attempt to play the ball, ducked out of the way and did not appear to impede Donnarumma's eyeline.

"For me, it looks as if I duck out of the way," Robertson said. "I don't think the keeper is in any eyeline to me. That's the rules we got told at the start of the season. So, it was a little bit of a difficult one [to understand].

"I think that should have stood. But yeah, we would have probably been fortunate to be on level terms, if we were, at that point."
