Despite coming through the ranks at Chelsea, Tyrique George has failed to nail down a spot in the starting lineup at Stamford Bridge.

The Blues are stacked with players in George’s position, and that is one of the reasons why the Englishman has struggled to find game time, making it hard to come by.

Chelsea invested heavily in the wide positions during the summer, and that has not helped George’s cause either.

The young winger was on the verge of a move to Fulham during the summer transfer window, but it collapsed at the last moment.

Despite this, George continues to remain professional at the club and makes valuable contributions to the team whenever called up by Enzo Maresca.

But the youngster does admit that one of the players that Chelsea have signed is a quality addition to the squad

Regular cameo appearances for Chelsea saw George called up to represent the England U21s in the current international break.

He is one of three Chelsea players in the squad, alongside Jamie Gittens and Josh Acheampong, who also featured in both games during the break.

Gittens and George combined for the Young Lions’ only goal against Andorra, and the Cobham graduate was full of praise for his club and international teammate after the game.

He said, “We’re really close friends. You always need competition in a top club, and you’re always going to get that. So I feel like he’s pushed me, and I push him, that’s the main objective, so it’s good.”

“No he’s really sharp. He’s really sharp, he’s really good, electric, smart player as well so yeah. He’s a really good player.”

George’s views on Gittens are echoed by Chelsea, who believe that the latter will come good at Stamford Bridge despite a slow start.

Not only is Gittens behind Pedro Neto and Estevao Willian in the pecking order at Chelsea, but he is also yet to score his first goal for the club.

But there is still plenty of time for both Gittens and George to turn things around at Chelsea after the international break.
