Premier League rivals set to enter race for Chelsea's long-term target image

Despite being linked with a move for Xavi Simons all summer long, Chelsea have yet to sign their man.

Now, with less than a week to go before the transfer window shuts, the Blues are running out of time to sign Simons from RB Leipzig.

What’s more worrying for Chelsea fans is that their club might just not be able to complete the deal after all.

In the last 24 hours, it has been reported that Enzo Maresca’s team have turned their attention to the signing of Fermin Lopez from Barcelona.

The other player that Chelsea have been linked with all summer long is Alejandro Garnacho from Manchester United, and now it has been revealed that they have reached an agreement to sign the Argentine international.

However, there is still no sign to suggest that Chelsea are set to make a move for Simons, and now one of Chelsea’s Premier League rivals look set to take advantage of the situation.

Tottenham set to enter race for Chelsea’s long-term target

According to a report from BILD in Germany this afternoon, Tottenham are entering the race for Xavi Simons, ready to compete with Chelsea, who are waiting to sell one of their attacking players before making a concrete move for the Dutch star.

Tottenham are looking for alternatives after their move for Eberechi Eze was hijacked by Arsenal at the last minute.

Thomas Frank’s team are keeping a close eye on Chelsea’s move for Simons and will be set to pounce if the Blues don’t act swiftly.

If Chelsea do not manage to sign Simons after being linked with him all summer long, not only will it be embarrassing, but it will also infuriate the fans if the Dutch international ends up at Spurs.
