Chelsea set to challenge Real Madrid for rising Serie A star image

Nico Paz has emerged as one of Serie A’s standout young midfielders after consistent displays for Como this season..

According to Caughtoffside, Real Madrid’s plan is to re-sign him using the buy-back clause they inserted when he signed for Como in 2024.

Chelsea are now monitoring the situation and sources indicate they are prepared to test Madrid’s confidence with a move of their own.

Chelsea interest and transfer battle with Real Madrid

Chelsea have been tracking Paz’s development closely with Fbref data showing he averages 3.68 shots and 5.05 shot creating actions per ninety minutes in Serie A.

His defensive numbers are equally strong with nearly two tackles and more than one block each game which underline his versatility.

Como value the midfielder at close to €80m [$93m] if a new deal is signed, making him potentially the club’s record sale.

According to Caughtoffside, "Chelsea love Nico, Chelsea will push for sure. Real Madrid are confident, but Como will try to negotiate a new contract for him to remove the buy-back clause. They believe they could then sell him for as much as €80m.”

This would open the door for a Premier League bid where Paz is seen as a long term addition in a squad built around young players.

With both Madrid and Chelsea heavily involved the player’s next contract will decide whether he returns to Spain or moves to England.
