Alex Ovechkin hasn't made up his mind yet.
Or at least if the Washington Capitals legend has, he isn't letting on.
Ovechkin, who last season broke Wayne Gretzky's NHL record for goals in a career, is now in the final season of his contract with the Caps.
He has 897 goals and counting, entering Tuesday night's matchup with the Tampa Bay Lightning on Oct. 14.
The rest of the hockey world wants to know just how much adulation they should show Ovechkin this season. Will he be back at all these arenas? Or does he want to go home?
"I don't know," Ovechkin told ESPN. "I take it day by day, you know? You have to have fun. Enjoy yourself. Do the best that you can."

Ovechkin recently turned 40, calling it "just a different number."
The Capitals are coming off a division title, which could energize Ovechkin, especially with most of last season's roster back.
"Yeah, I mean you go to locker room and you see the guy who was next to you from last year," Ovechkin told ESPN. "We have some additions, but they understand the culture. They understand where they're at. I think it's pretty good."
Pretty soon, Ovechkin will reach 900 career goals, the only player to ever do so and a long way away from anyone approaching that round number anytime soon.
How long would he have to play to get 1000? It's likely not something Ovi is thinking about.
Ovechkin, having only ever known being a hockey player, is likely just looking forward to the next time he can skate onto the ice, find the left slot and crush a fastball past the goalie and into the back of the net one more time.
