Golden Knights' Jack Eichel gets $108 million contract update on opening night image

The Las Vegas Golden Knights open their season on Wednesday night.

They got a contract extension done with superstar Jack Eichel just in time.

The Athletic's Chris Johnston reported that Eichel is signing an eight-year extension worth $13.5 million per year, which adds up to $108 million in total value.

Eichel was entering the final year of his contract. Now, he isn't going anywhere for a long time.

He's the third superstar to sign an extension this offseason rather than entering their contract year, after the Wild's Kirill Kaprizov and the Oilers' Connor McDavid.

Eichel was already joined this offseason by another star. Mitch Marner is in Vegas on an eight-year, $12 million per year contract.

The do-everything Eichel is one of the best moves in the history of the Vegas franchise. His acquisition from Buffalo helped lead to a Stanley Cup.

The superstar center has now spent four seasons in Vegas. Across 241 games, he has 100 goals and 153 assists for the Golden Knights.

They'll chase another Cup, or many more, now that they've got both Marner and Eichel aligned for the foreseeable future.

The Golden Knights got this contract done about six hours before the puck drops for their first game of the year. It's great timing. They don't have to worry about any controversy as the season goes along.

Eichel will be in a great mood, and Vegas will chase more glory. It's a perfect situation to be in for the Golden Knights and their superstar.
