There's a loaded class of NHL players entering the final year of their current contracts. That means extension rumors are at the forefront of the hockey world right now.
That includes Jack Eichel, the Las Vegas Golden Knights' superstar. And it sounds like things are trending in the right direction for him.
NHL insider Frank Seravelli shared Tuesday on the B/R Open Ice stream that he believes Eichel will sign a new contract before the season begins.
Seravelli predicts up to $13.5 million per year, which would work out to $108 million over eight years.
"I'm just ballparking these deals in what they look like to me on paper, and I see Jack Eichel in the $13-13.5 million range," Seravelli said.
Eichel has a new high-profile running mate this season in Mitch Marner, who the Golden Knights got in a sign-and-trade from the Toronto Maple Leafs.
Marner got an eight-year deal worth $12 million per year, so Eichel is likely looking at a slightly higher payday.
Eichel's free agent class also includes Oiler superstar Connor McDavid and Wild star Kirill Kaprizov.
McDavid might be the most uncertain to sign at this point.
Seravelli said later in his stream that the thinks Kaprizov also will sign before the season, and for more money than Eichel.
There are definitely a lot of big-money moving parts still to be put into place, and Eichel is one of them.
