The Vancouver Canucks knew who they wanted in a Quinn Hughes trade.

They wanted the 20-year old defenseman from the Minnesota Wild, Zeev Buium.

The package was bigger than Buium, of course. But he's the guy who can develop into a replacement for Hughes long term.

How about short term?

He scored one goal and assisted on another:

The Canucks would've had Hughes through the end of the 2026-27 season.

Instead, they have Buium for the long run. And first impressions, as much as they matter, couldn't have been made much better than this one.
