The 2025 NHL franchise valuations have come in via Sportico with some results expected and others surprising as the NHL revenue space continues to undergo a changing economy.
Expectedly at the top of the list led 4 Original 6 teams. At the forefront of those teams is the Toronto Maple Leafs, coming in at a value of approximately $4.25. The Leafs continue to lead the way as the richest franchise after recently passing the New York Rangers for that honor.
The Montreal Canadiens and Boston Bruins ranked 3rd and 4th respectively. But from this point forward in the ranking is where the surprises begin as the remaining Original 6 teams are featured lower in the list.
Which teams were surprises?
One of those Original 6 teams in question is the Chicago Blackhawks who surprisingly dropped from 6th to 7th compared to the 2024 rankings. The Detroit Red Wings were the lowest of the Original 6 teams with a 10th place standing.
Sandwiched between the Original 6 teams in 5th and 6th is the Los Angeles Kings and Edmonton Oilers. The Kings are not a surprise being such a big market. The Oilers passing the Blackhawks is interesting, perhaps that is the Connor McDavid effect on full display. Meanwhile, the Philadelphia Flyers and Washington Capitals placed 8th and 9th in between the Hawks and Wings rounding out the top 10.
The team that experienced the most yearly growth was the Florida Panthers, rising to 17th in the standings. That is what consecutive Stanley Cup victories will do for the financial health of your organization.
