The Toronto Maple Leafs sure are good at defending home ice against the Montreal Canadiens.
In fact, Montreal has pretty much forgotten how to win in Toronto altogether.
The Maple Leafs won Wednesday night over the Canadiens, 5-2, to open the season with a victory in the rivalry.
It's the 11th consecutive win for the Maple Leafs over the Canadiens in Toronto.
According to Sportsnet, that's the second-longest streak in Maple Leafs history. They won 12 in a row at home against the Vancouver Canucks from 2014 to 2021.
This one was a lot closer than the 5-2 final indiciated.
Toronto scored a minute in with Bobby McMann, but then Montreal equalized four-and-a-half minutes later with Oliver Kapanen.

In the second period, the Canadiens took their only lead when Zachar Bolduc made it 2-1. Calle Jarnkrok tied it up midway through the second.
And in the third, it was all Leafs.
Morgan Rielly made it 3-2 with a goal after nine minutes were gone in the period.
Then Toronto capped it off with a pair of empty-net goals, first from Auston Matthews and William Nylander.
Montreal outshot Toronto, forcing 29 saves in 31 attempts for Anthony Stolarz compared to 22 saves in 25 attempts for Canadiens' goalie Sam Montembeault.
But it was the Maple Leafs winning at home against the Canadiens, because at this point, that's simply what they do until proven otherwise.
