Last year's Battle of Alberta had everything: a war of words, questionable hits, stick flips, a fight between two players who don't normally drop the gloves — and that's not including the goalie fight.
It has been 371 days since the Oilers and Flames last met (they should have met on the last day of the 2019-20 season but we all know why that didn't happen), and while last season is in the past, it doesn't mean things won't get heated between these rivals.
"I expect and I've heard about the intensity and physicality and I've watched it for the past number of years," said the Oilers' Kyle Turris, who will be making his debut in the rivalry. "It's always fun to watch and now to have the opportunity to take part is really exciting and very special."
There were four games in the 2019-20 season (the Flames won three of them); this year, we're blessed with 10 meetings beginning Saturday night at the Saddledome. Both teams are locked in a tight division race, with Calgary seventh in the North and Edmonton three points ahead in fourth. Besides provincial bragging rights, a lot is on the line in this game.
