There was plenty of optimism around the Habs this season, but who could've imagined this start? The Canadiens are amongst the leaders in the Atlantic Division behind dream starts for several of their money players.
Chief among them is captain Nick Suzuki, who's been a nightmare for opposing teams on the power play. Suzuki's brilliance with the man advantage has lifted the Habs to a top-10 power play, scoring on around a quarter of their opportunities.
Where Montreal can be better is staying out of the box itself. It ranks top-10 in penalty minutes and has allowed teams to stay in games or steal them by giving up goals while a player or two down. Montreal's penalty kill currently sits middle of the pack in the league. Not good enough for a team that hopes to make a deep playoff run.
Last Monday, the Blue Jackets gave the Oilers everything they wanted but fell short 5-4 in OT. After dominating play for two and a half periods, the Jackets saw the win slip out of their hands when Edmonton came storming back and scored the last 3 goals of the game, including Jack Roslovic's OT winner.
One thing you can count on in this one, it'll be close. Columbus has played in four extra-period games, including last Monday's game, and the Habs have played in seven.
