The end of the year means it's time for the IIHF World Junior Championships, perhaps the most exciting junior tournament in sports.
Team Canada enters this year's tournament with 20 titles overall, by far the most in World Junior's history. However, Canada hasn't lived up to expectations in the last two years, failing to finish in the top four while Team USA took home gold in both tournaments.
Despite falling short in the last few tournaments, Canada is still the favorite for this year's World Junior Championships. This year's team features Gavin McKenna, expected first pick in the 2026 NHL draft, 2025 second overall pick Michael Misa, and Tij Iginla, son of Calgary Flames great Jerome Iginla.
Canada will open the tournament against Czechia, who earned back-to-back bronze medals in 2024 and 2025. This is also a rematch of the 2023 gold medal game, which Canada won for its last medal in this tournament.
