The Edmonton Oilers woke up Friday morning and got to work.
Not only did they trade for Tristan Jarry. They also swung a second, separate trade to add a 25-year old defenseman.
The new guy in the second deal: Spencer Stastney.
TSN's Pierre LeBrun reported that Stastney comes to Edmonton from the Nashville Predators in exchange for a 2027 third-round pick.
Stastney has played 30 games for Nashville this season and has one goal with eight assists.
The Oilers created an opening on their defensive depth chart when they traded Brett Kulak to the Penguins along with Stuart Skinner in the trade for Jarry and forward Sam Poulin.
Stastney was originally a fifth-round pick of the Predators in 2018 who didn't make his NHL debut until April 2023.
This is the final season of Stastney's current contract.
He has played a total of 81 NHL games for the Predators and has three goals and 15 assists.
At the time of these two trades, the Oilers are 14-11-6. They're hoping for a jolt to get their season moving in a good direction.
They've got new faces in the locker room, and if they can incorporate themselves well, Edmonton can begin to make a push up the standings.
