The Edmonton Oilers and Pittsburgh Penguins captured the attention of the NHL world on Friday morning when they announced a trade.
The deal includes a pair of starting-level goalies going in opposite directions, Stuart Skinner and Tristan Jarry, as five total pieces are on the move.
The full details were announced by the Penguins on Friday morning:
- Oilers get:
- Tristan Jarry
- Sam Poulin
- Penguins get:
- Stuart Skinner
- Brett Kulak
- Oilers' 2029 2nd-round pick
Skinner is in the last season of his contract, while Jarry is under contract through the 2027-28 season, which is a key piece to the narrative of this trade.
Skinner is 11-8-4 this season for the Oilers, the only NHL team he has played for until now. He and Calvin Pickard have only combined for an.879 save percentage, though, potentially the prompting for this move.
Kulak, the other player coming to Pittsburgh, is a defenseman who has played in 611 NHL games. He had 25 points last season, a career best, but has just two points through 31 games this season.
Jarry has started 13 games this season for Pittsburgh with a 9-3-1 record.
Also going to Edmonton is the 24-year old Poulin, a 6-foot-2 right wing. Poulin has appeared in just two NHL games this season. He has gotten into a total of 15 games since being the No. 21 overall pick in the 2019 NHL Draft, recording just two assists.
