Connor McDavid rarely disappoints.

The best hockey player on the planet continues to prove that status each time he takes the ice for the Edmonton Oilers, including on Tuesday night in a win over the Nashville Predators.

McDavid finished with three goals, a hat trick. He was clearly in a shooting mood, firing 10 shots.

It was the 14th hat trick of his career, which moved him into fourth all-time in Oilers history.

He broke a tie with Mark Messier, who had 13, according to Sportsnet.

Next for McDavid will be 20 hat tricks. That's the amount that both Jari Kurri and Glenn Anderson had with Edmonton.

The untouchable, most likely, is Wayne Gretzky. He had 43 hat tricks just in his time with the Oilers.

McDavid often plays the distributor role and isn't always looking to call his own number.

But his shot total on Tuesday night showed that McDavid felt he had an advantage and wanted to exploit it.

Three goals later, it's clear McDavid was right.

On the season, McDavid is now up to 28 goals and 47 assists (75 points) through 43 games.

He's on pace for his sixth consecutive 100-point season.

In every season of his career, McDavid has averaged more than a point per game.
