Dallas Stars forward Tyler Seguin suffers likely season ending injury image

Stars forward Tyler Seguin is expected to miss the remainder of the season for the Dallas Stars after sustaining an ACL injury in his right knee, a significant blow to one of the NHL’s top teams in the Western Conference.

Head coach Glen Gulutzan said the 33-year-old forward will be out “a significant amount of time,” with the timeline measured in months and leaving only faint hope for a possible playoff return.​

Seguin played just two shifts before leaving at 1:44 of the first period in Dallas’ 3-2 overtime loss to the New York Rangers at Madison Square Garden on Tuesday. The injury occurred when he got tangled up with Rangers defenseman Vladislav Gavrikov, went down in visible pain, and needed help to reach the dressing room.​

Seguin is a valuable asset for the Stars; he has 17 points (seven goals, 10 assists) in just 27 games this season. Earlier this year, in October, he played his 1,000th NHL game. Drafted at No. 2 by the Boston Bruins in the 2010 NHL Draft he's tallied up 826 points (367 goals, 459 assists) in 1,016 regular-season games across both Boston and Dallas. He also tallies 79 points (29 goals, 50 assists) in 151 playoff games. 

"It's a tough day for us today with the news, but other guys now have to step in and play," Gulutzan said. "... [Nathan Bastian] comes in. He gets to play against his old team and he's played good hockey for us this year, too.... The rest of the league is in the same boat. There's lots of injuries piling up, and lots of games, so we just got to keep moving forward."
