Coaches often talk about the idea of visualizing success.
Calgary Flames goaltender Devin Cooley is taking that to a whole new level.
The Flames' goalie has embraced virtual reality to prepare him for games. It's visualization, in a sense, but done on a very real level.
Calgary recently released what Cooley sees on his VR headset when he's preparing for an outing.

The extra work seemingly hasn't hurt Cooley, who is only in his second NHL season after not making an appearance at this level in 2024-25.
The 6-foot-5 Cooley has already made a career-high 10 appearances. In seven starts, Cooley has three wins, two losses and two defeats in overtime.
He has saved 93% of the shots he has seen.
Cooley is leading the entire NHL with a 1.88 goals against average.

His numbers were nowhere near this in a small-sample size, six-start 2023-24 season with the San Jose Sharks.
Is the VR to credit? Hard to say. But Cooley is certainly advancing his career this season.
