The Buffalo Sabres are moving some goaltenders around on the eve of the regular season.

Alexandar Georgiev had been listed on the Sabres' opening night roster, but he has now been placed on waivers on Tuesday, according to Bill Hoppe of the Olean Times Herald.

The Sabres changed course at the goalie position after snagging Colten Ellis off waivers from the St. Louis Blues.

Georgiev will be on waivers to be claimed by anyone in the NHL. If he clears waivers, he'll head to the AHL to play for the Rochester Americans.

It's only been three seasons since Georgiev finished top-10 in voting for the Vezina Trophy.

Last season, he played in 49 games between the Colorado Avalanche and San Jose Sharks. He had a save percentage of just 87.5, and a goals against average was 3.71.

In his career, Georgiev is 151-108-26 with a 2.99 GAA and a 90.3 save percentage.

The Sabres are beginning the season without their starting goaltender, Ukko-Pekka Luukkonen. He begins the season on injured reserve with a lower-body injury.

Alex Lyon is the other goalie on the roster. He was signed earlier in the offseason to be UPL's primary backup.

And for now, it'll be Lyon and Ellis with Buffalo, while Georgiev is on his way out of town.

The Sabres open the season on Thursday night at home. They'll be hosting the New York Rangers.
